The historical custom of wearing charm bracelets dates back millenia, and though the materials and designs on them have changed, the concept itself has never gone out of style. This form of jewelry initially had a religous function, and dates back to the prehistoric era. Based on data from Elizabeth Florence, president of the Jewelry Information Center, charm bracelets were first worn by Assyrians, Babylonians, Persians and Hittites from 500 to 400 B.C. Those charms were created from lapis lazuli, rock crystal and other locally-available gems and were inscribed with symbolic designs, like figures of gods, humans and animals. They were closely associated with magical spiritual powers and served as protective talismans.

As time passed, charms diminished in religious significance and became fashion jewelry instead. The Victorians of the 1890′s spurred a renaissance of charms, due to their love of elaborate and intricate clothing and jewelry. Queen Victoria helped fuel the craze by wearing a charm bracelet of tiny lockets holding family portraits.

A second revival of charm bracelets occured in America in the Second World War era, as soldiers stationed abroad acquired charms as souvenirs from the European cities where they were stationed and brought these trinkets home as presents for wives and girlfriends. The fashion trend continued well into the 1950′s.

Charms have never entirely gone out of vogue, and are becoming increasingly popular today as personal keepsakes in an increasingly mass-produced jewelry market. Popular themes include horoscope signs, birthstone charms, travel souvenirs, and family keepsakes. Many women begin their charms collection when still in childhood, and the charm bracelet grows along with them, reflecting hobbies and experiences. A charm bracelet can hold a tiny replica of a sports trophy, a wedding bouquet, or even lockets holding family photos.

As well, charms are popular gifts because of their affordable cost. An intricate silver charm can be found for less than 10 dollars, though it’s possible to spend 100s of dollars on a 18k gold charm set with gems.

Italian charms, a genre in and of themselves, don’t dangle from a chain like traditional charms. Instead, each pattern is soldered onto a flat link which snaps onto an extensible bracelet. The patterns consist of letters, symbols, pictures, precious gems, or even have enamel pictures painted on them. Charms can be snapped on and off these modular bracelets to come up with new configurations to match different moods and outfits. These bracelets are traditionally manufactured of stainless steel, though the more expensive ones come in 18k gold. Each italian charm is of a standard interchangeable size and the resulting bracelet can be customized to any woman’s wrist; the smallest size holds seventeen or even less links, a medium eighteen, and a large nineteen or even even more.

There are different corporations which make Italian charms, however all brands are supposed to be interchangable on the basic bracelet. The “starter” bracelet of blank links costs around 5 dollars, and on the average charms run 15 dollars and higher. Ironically, China also manufactures a great number of these “Italian” charms, and while they are popular due to their low price, a select few consumers report occasional oddities like reversed images and off-size fit on the standard bracelet.

Italian charm bracelets are a very popular item right now. But, what are they and what do they stand for, if anything. Bracelets in general, whether for special occasions like friendship bracelets, or just beautiful ones like diamond tennis bracelets have been worn for years as a regular pieces of jewelry. Of course, there are many styles and types to choose from. Even children enjoy jelly bracelets. Let us explore the different types that we see commonly today.

Italian charm bracelets are easy to find these days. While people have been making and selling them for a century, they have come back into style with a bang within the last few years. These bracelets are usually made from sterling silver and even at times coated with 18K gold. They are fashioned in links with charms fitting into them. The charms have no limit as to what they can be. Animals, symbols, birthstones, religious articles and more. These bracelets are widely available in every quality and value imaginable. Like any charm bracelet, they are custom made to the things the individual likes. A real sense of personality is evident in charm bracelets like these.

Other types of bracelets include magnetic bracelets, friendship bracelets, and even diamond tennis bracelets. Magnetic bracelets are often made from metals, Titanium, Stainless Steel or Copper. Many people claim that wearing one of these types of bracelets will give you added health benefits. They say that wearing a copper bracelet will increase circulation and benefit your health. While that is not proven, they are still very stylish choices to wear. Children often love jelly bracelets. These, made of plastic are often multi colored and traded among friends. Like friendship bracelets, they are symbols of loyalty. Friendship bracelets are often hearts or charms that are split into two or more pieces. Two (or more) friends each get a piece of the charm. The charms fit together and usually have a phrase of love or friendship on them. Other trinkets and charms are sold along with this type. Diamond tennis bracelets, are just what they sound like. Usually in gold or silver, these bracelets contain diamonds or other gems. Usually the precious stone is in a pattern or continuous single line around the piece.

Adding a beautiful bracelet, of any sort, to your collection is a great choice. There are many types, styles, and choices available to the buyer. And, whether you decide to purchase online or at a local jewelry store, doing some basic research and having understanding of what you are looking for will enable you to make the right choice.

Children aren’t exempt from having medical conditions, so it is important for those who do have medical problems to wear a child medical alert bracelet. Parents can’t always be there in the event of a medical emergency; and with kids at school all day, it’s integral for peace of mind if they invest in a child medical alert bracelet. These bracelets are an easy way for medical and school personnel to retrieve important medical information when your child cannot relay it. They help avoid allergic reactions and other medical issues, for example.

Kids can be choosy, but with the many sellers online and offline, parents can easily help their children select a stylish piece of jewelry. It may be good to let children help select a child medical alert bracelet to ensure that he or she likes it enough to keep it on when you’re not around — when it’s needed most.

Beads are a popular choice for girls and boys. Girls will like sparkling beads, while boys may go for something more plain. Plates with the medical symbol on them come in everything from stainless steel to silver and gold. Designer bracelets are growing in popularity for many adults, and many medical alert bracelet companies now make bracelets specifically for children. Other popular designs include plates in fun shapes with the medical alert information on them.

Teens are a sensitive group, as many of them care about their appearance and the opinions of their peers. Ankle bracelets with a dangling charm or a small engraved plate are very acceptable jewelry accessories for teen girls. The beaded bracelets are also fun, decorative and fashionable and will complement any style rather than compete. Boys can discretely wear medical alert jewelry by wearing a sports wristband band or handsome watchband. These pieces can be as simple or elegant as the wearer wants and many manufacturers produce medical jewelry with a keen eye on fashion and style trends.

Parents can regain peace knowing that their child’s medical information can easily be relayed to the paramedics or a school official in the event of an emergency. Children especially should have the proper medical information on them at all times, as many of them may have a drug allergy, asthma allergy, diabetes, or bee sting allergy.

With personal health becoming more important to more people, many are looking to use medical alert bracelets in order to properly identify their medical concerns in the event of an accident or medical emergency.

The concept of boring medical tags is long gone, as these bracelets are showing up in trendy styles by an increasing amount of vendors, especially over the Internet. Stylish necklaces, pendants, and bracelets are available; and medical alert ID bracelets specifically come beaded and in many attractive metals for adults and children. Forget stainless steel nowadays, medical alert ID bracelets also come in gold. These bracelets are now available in designer styles, making them more appealing to wear.

You can use a medical alert ID bracelet all the time; its life-saving information goes where you do. Just put it on, and rely on it in the event of an emergency. These trusty bracelets are used in emergency situations, when people cannot relay important medical information to the paramedics or other helpful persons. Even family members and friends may not know about a condition, so the bracelet provides
information that can quickly be used to make sure that allergic reactions, for example, do not occur. Paramedics can also quickly contact your “”in case of emergency”" person with a glance at the bracelet.

Everyone with a medical condition or allergy should consider wearing a medical alert bracelet. These important bracelets can help those with a myriad of conditions, yet don’t draw attention to a condition because of the hip styles. The new medical alert bracelets look more like plain jewelry than the older medical alert bracelets and tags.

Whichever medical alert bracelet you choose, be sure to purchase one if you have a medical condition. They are easy to use, attractive, and most of all, have the unique ability to save your life in a time of need.

The medical alert bracelet is a fairly recent phenomenon. Medical alert jewelry started with stainless steel tags that resembled dog tags, and although they were useful, their popularity never reached beyond people who absolutely wanted or needed to wear them.

Medical ID bracelets were initially available in stainless steel. Over the past decade or so, with people becoming more health-conscious and with more medical conditions being diagnosed, people began to want bracelets that they could actually enjoy wearing. While most people wouldnt enjoy advertising their medical condition, many wanted to discretely have their medical condition information available on their person in the event of an emergency.

Metallic designer bracelets have become increasingly popular in the 21st century. Available products are constantly evolving, and many of the bracelets dont even have rectangular engravable plates anymore. In fact, many designer ID bracelets allow medical information to be displayed on a shapely charm. These designer bracelets are a great way to almost account for medical factors with style. In this way, medical information is still available, but person can enjoy the look and style of their medical bracelet.

As of late, beaded medical bracelets have also become popular, bringing a new array of colors to the field. These lively bracelets are a highly customizable and attractive option for style-conscious medical patients.

Adding a new style to the highly functional accessory, beaded medical bracelets are produced with attractive designs and sold by several online medical vendors.

What do you do when the straps of your watch come apart?

You could send it for repairs, or simply change the strap.

Or, you could transform that old watch into a stunning bracelet with gemstone beads.

That is exactly what I did with my old watch when it gave way.

The old strap was secured to the watch by 2 holes. One on each side of the watch face. That meant, I could attach my new strap through those holes.

I have a large collection of semi-precious gemstone beads which I use for jewelry making. Rather than using fishing line, I wanted something really strong to hold these precious stones together.

I had a pal who was a dentistry student. In her class, they used very strong stainless steel wires to make braces. She had more than enough wire for her work and could spare me some.

I cut that wire in 2. Each half was enough to go around my wrist. Then I slipped a wire through the hole on one end of the watch and doubled it up, so I could string 2 strands of beads through each half of that wire.

As my watch had a gold face, I chose tiger eyes and orange and yellow topaz for my watch bracelet. I strung the beads through the wire until I was pleased with the look. Then I secured the end of the wires onto a necklace clasp. I did the same with the other wire on the other hole on the other side of the watch and attached the wires to the other side of the necklace clasp.

All done, I had a gorgeous, unique, expensive looking watch to flaunt. No one knew it was from an old watch that would otherwise have been discarded.

You can do the same with an old watch. You can get some strong wires and pliers from a nearby hardware shop. If you see an old or hideous bracelet or necklace that is about to be discarded, just salvage the clasp. You can use these clasps for new watches, bracelets or necklaces. Just improvise with whatever you can find.

Nowadays, gorgeous watches don’t cost much. Check out my site http://www.cheapestsale.com. I created that section http://www.cheapestsale.com/watches/ to help me get the best deals in a huge selection of watches, branded or otherwise. I hope you find it useful too.
